The Doctoral Supervision course is applicable to academics in all disciplines and is an accredited short course at the University of Stellenbosch. The University will issue a Certificate of Competence to participants who successfully complete all the assignments.
Doctoral supervision is a social phenomenon (irrespective of the discipline of a particular study), therefore insights from up-to-date social scientific research will underpin the course. This means that the course has a sound scientific basis. The theoretical and practical dimensions of doctoral supervision are blended in the course, with hands-on exercises, group work, and the opportunity to work on projects in which delegates are actually engaged in (e.g. feedback and advice on your feedback to your PhD students), and the opportunity to interact with experienced supervisors in different disciplines.
The course will be conducted by Prof Jan Botha from Stellenbosch University, CREST.
